What I Have (Not) Been Painting

I have been starting and not finishing a lot of painting for the last few weeks.

I think part of it is that I am trying a lot of new things and my ideas get ahead of what I am doing and I want to move on - not continue what I am working on. It started when I got so frustrated with my watercolor that I decided to try and paint in oil.  Of course, that means learning a lot of new things, both materials and the way oil works, not to mention doing some amazingly cruddy painting.

came to town and I went back to watercolor in order to try out all kinds of new ideas and techniques I watched her demonstrate over the course of a 6 day workshop.

Notes from the workshop...
Now, I have watercolors and oils which are all in some degree of an unfinished state.

Below are some examples. I do plan to finish something from here, but for now -
I  am posting only the fruits of my discontent!

of drawing directly onto
tracing paper. (Thanks, Myrna!)

Almost finished watercolor of my dad from the drawing above.

It's all wonderful. I especially love your watercolor of the teacher.

Seems like a time to try new things and expand. And have lots of patience with yourself.

I see love pouring out of your father's eyes. Into you, and out of your hands onto the paper/canvas. Beautiful!

Carol, I am so grateful that Myrna W. Came to town. I certainly understand frustration and self criticism. The schedule of regular blogging does not suit all of our creative temperaments.
Those of us with particular longings are not satisfied With cracking out product reflecting one level of achievement or approach to a subject.

However, you are one of THE most talented watercolorists in this blogging clique. You are exceptionally able. Because of your drawing skills and undersanding of Color and value, it makes sense that you would excell at oil or whatever medium you choose.

I've spent the past year mucking about with differernt medium so I understand the need to experiment.

Watercolor isn a masters medium and you are a master of the medium. Whenever you need to e reminded, you just get in touch with me. I mean it. XO

I love the beautiful figure painting with that transparent green ground. It's fab and I hope you left it as is... sometimes we might not realize WHEN something is just so fresh and finished. it's magic.
